Commissioners meet Monday
Montague County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. on Feb. 25.
A resolution in support of the dissolution of the North Montague County Water Supply District and conveying all property and assets to the City of Nocona will be presented. The two entities have been in the process of the changeover for almost a year.
The court will discuss increasing the amount to lease voting equipment to a political subdivision. Montague County is in the midst of purchasing new voting machines and registration tablets.
Abatement of the damaged building at State Highway 59 and Franklin Street on the courthouse square will be discussed. The building was damaged and deemed unsafe after a pickup truck ran into back in August in caught fire killing the driver.
The building owner has been unable to reach a settlement with the driver’s insurance company, and has indicated he does not have the more than $60,000 estimated to tear it down.
Montague County began the abatement of a nuisance process in December and Chancellor has not be in contact with county officials. Demolition is expected to begin possibly this week. Costs will be assessed to the owner, along with any possible fines.
Other topics on the agenda will include: Monthly veteran’s service office report; approve bond for Brittani Evans, clerk in justice of the peace one’s office; accept the sheriff office’s racial profiling report; permission for precinct one to enter the Charles Lanier property on Mallard Road to clear a fence row and to enter the Billie Perot property on Thurman Road to turn trucks around while doing repair work on a FEMA project.

Gold-Burg High one-act prepares for public show on Sunday
The cast and crew of Gold-Burg High School’s state-bound one-act play “Interview,” will present a public show at 4 p.m. on May 5 in the Bowie Junior High Auditorium.
Admission is $5 and there will be a bake sale to raise funds for travel and other OAP expenses. The show is directed by Linda Fitzner.
The group will travel to Austin to perform on May 13 for the state title. This is the school’s first time to take a play to the state contest.

Voters decide today on two ISD bonds
Voters in Bowie and Forestburg Independent School Districts will have their say Saturday as both entities offer up bond issues to improve infrastructure.
Early voting came to an end on Tuesday with a total of 1,230 people casting their ballots.
On election day the polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at three locations: Bowie Senior Citizens Center, Forestburg ISD Library and Sunset City Hall. Voters can cast their ballots at any of these locations due to countywide voting.
