Thanks to the efforts of his fellow veterans, U.S. Army veteran Private Sammy C. Browning will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery with a graveside flag presentation Friday.
Financially unable to pay for the funeral, the family got in touch with the Montague County Veteran’s Service Office and soon they received some help.
VSO Colm Murphy said he talked with Alicia Browning two weeks ago about getting some assistance in burying her father who died on Jan. 29 in Waco.
Murphy explained she has recently moved to Bowie and could not afford the expense. After contacting some local veterans, enough money was donated to transport Browning’s remains from Waco to Bowie, purchase a burial plot in Elmwood Cemetery and arrange a graveside flag presentation.
“We at the veteran’s office feel very strongly about honoring all veterans and would like to get the word out that anyone wishing to attend this final salute to this Army veteran is welcome,” said Murphy.
The ceremony will be at 2 p.m. on March 8 in Elmwood Cemetery.
