Saint Jo
The Saint Jo Lady Panthers won their opening game of the season on Tuesday at home against Perrin-Whitt.
The Lady Panthers won in straight sets. The first set was close, but Saint Jo was able to pull out the close win 25-23.
After that the Lady Panthers settled down and won the next two sets easily with one sided scores of 25-16 and 25-14.
Saint Jo plays in its first tournament this weekend at Bryson before hosting Gainesville at 5 p.m. on Aug. 13.
Gold-Burg
The Gold-Burg Lady Bears also started their season with a win on Tuesday at home against Savoy.
Through four sets of tough play, the Lady Bears were able to pull off the win while avoiding a fifth set.
The first set was competitive, but Gold-Burg was able to make the plays at the end to win 25-22. The second set was all Lady Bears as their aggressive serving and non stop attacks led to a one-sided 25-14 win to go up 2-0.
Needing only one more set to close things out, the Lady Cardinals were not going away.
The next two sets were back and forth with a few points here and there making all of the difference in both. Savoy squeaked out a win in the third set 26-24 to force a fourth set.
Wanting to avoid a comeback and the dreaded anything goes fifth set, Gold-Burg dug deep and won the fourth set by the narrowest of margins 25-23 to win the match 3-1.
The Lady Bears also compete in Bryson this weekend in their first tournament. Gold-Burg’s next game will be at 5 p.m. in Graford.
Prairie Valley
Prairie Valley won its opening game Tuesday night at Quanah.
The Lady Bulldogs won 3-1. Prairie Valley also will be competing in Bryson this weekend before hosting Montague County foe Forestburg at 5 p.m. on Aug. 13.
