HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL: Forestburg wins with depth

The Prairie Valley girls’ basketball team featured a new player during Friday’s District 1A-21 game.
Robin Fenoglio, who hadn’t played in nearly two years, was back in the court for the Lady Bulldogs out of necessity.
Lexi Roof was out of action with a toe injury and Taylor Carter has been reduced to limited activity. Prairie Valley needed another player, so Fenoglio stepped in.
However, even with another player, Forestburg had simply too much depth – and the Lady Horns outscored the Lady Bulldogs 18-6 in the final quarter to prevail 47-29.
“We started the game very slowly,” Forestburg head coach Rosana Barbosa said. “We played a very strong fourth quarter. We allowed them to score only six points.”
Barbosa said Forestburg is playing well, improving to 10-7, 2-0 in 1A-21, but she doesn’t see any district games being easy.
Prairie Valley stayed close with Forestburg, but the Lady Horns inside presence eventually wore down the Lady Bulldogs.
“Playing in the post is a weakness of ours,” Prairie Valley head coach Jeannie Carpenter admitted. “They have good girls in the post, and they are tough to defend. That’s what hurt us in the game.”
