The Bowie High School girls’ basketball team had its best-ever showing at the 57th Annual Whataburger Tournament this week.
The Lady Rabbits claimed the consolation championship with 69-59 victory over Kennedale at Saginaw High School on Wednesday.
“This is the best we’ve done here,” Bowie head coach Colby Davis-Pastusek said. “We had gone 2-2 and 2-2. I’ve seen good teams go 0-4 here.”
And the Bowie girls nearly defeated Wall, before falling to the Hawks by three points.
Courtney Brady and Addy Cook fueled the Lady Rabbits’ victory over Kennedale as Brady tossed in 26 points and Cook supplied a season-high 20 points.
Brady was named to the all-tournament team, and Cook sank 12-of-20 free throws in a game featuring 63 attempted foul shots combined.
“Addy was able to get some second-chance points for us off offensive rebounds,” Davis-Pastusek said. “She put in a lot of effort on the offensive boards. And Courtney played well the whole tournament. She was a consistent scoring threat from the perimeter. It was a big accomplishment for her.”
