Bowie to play Bangs in bi-district
The Bowie Jackrabbit baseball team is matched up with Bangs for their upcoming bi-district playoff series.
The Jackrabbits probably come in as slight favorites after finishing second in the district and giving district champion and state-ranked Holliday its only district loss and barely losing by one run in the second game.
Despite no seniors in the starting lineup and a team with little varsity experience due to last year’s canceled season, the team, along with first year head coach Tyler Price, has vastly exceeded expectations so far in the regular season.
With a 19-12 overall record and a 9-3 district record, the team was able to beat every team in district at least once. Several times the team has pulled off come from behind victories, with walk-off wins against Holliday, Jacksboro and Dodd City.
The Bangs Dragons come into the series after a 14-11 regular season record and an 8-6 record in district play. Price feels like his team will have to play their game to beat Bangs at least two times.
“They have a couple of good arms and can hit the ball,” Price said. “I believe they do a good job of capitalizing on other teams mistakes.”
The one big phrase for this Jackrabbits team is concentrating on playing their brand of baseball.
If they do that, they believe they can compete with anyone.
“We like to create chaos with our base running, athleticism and play great defensively,” Price said. We like our pitchers to work ahead, hit spots and trust their defense behind. Offensively, we look to drive the ball gap to gap and our goal is to spin the game out of control for the opposing team. Our brand of baseball is also playing as a team and not as an individual.”
The series is scheduled for 7 p.m. on May 7 and 1 p.m. on May 8 at Walt Driggers Field at McMurry University. Game three will follow game two if needed.

A positive culture can be tough to install but will reap dividends if done correctly.
Trinadee Imotichey is trying to do just that with her Forestburg Lady Longhorns.
Imotichey, an assistant coach on the 2025 Forestburg volleyball team, was moved into the head coaching position. Last year’s coach, Cori Hayes, took over as football head coach.
Imotichey, in her 2nd year in Forestburg, said she learned a lot from Hayes and is ready to take over.

Bowie’s summer softball league team overcame a 6-1 deficit with a six-run third inning for a 7-6 win over Bridgeport in its season opener July 6.
The league consists of teams from Bowie, Nocona, Lindsay, Bridgeport, and Alvord and will last three weeks. Bowie will host games each week.
Bowie pitcher Hazel Trahern gave up two singles and a groundout to put the Sissies on the board in the first. It would be the only hits she gave up in the game. Two groundouts and a strikeout got the Lady Rabbits out of the jam.
Bowie got the run back in the bottom of the first with Andee Jo Miller opening the frame with a walk and a stolen base. She then scored on Kynlee Baker’s groundout to tie the game at one.

Sage Keck, an 8th grader at Montague, lives by this mantra. No ifs, ands and buts about it.
She’s been running since fourth grade PE classes where she would run a mile every week. After discovering she could outrun the other students, she began to enjoy it and continued doing it.
Her success continued, as she finished 2nd overall against more than 200 runners at the Old Saint Jo 5K July 4. In last weekend’s Texas Junior Olympics, she reached the pinnacle of her career so far by qualifying for the United States of America Track and Field (USATF) National Junior Olympics in Norwalk, Calif. in three events.
