Prairie Valley recorded its second victory over Midway this season to sweep the series between the two schools, with a 37-31- conquest.
“I felt the key to winning against Midway was shutting down its post,” Prairie Valley head girls’ basketball coach Jeannie Carpenter said. “We were unable to do that until the fourth quarter when Katieann Carter and Lexi Roof stepped up and got some very key rebounds.”
The game turned into a defensive struggle in the second half, but the Bulldogs were able to win it by forcing the Falcons into fouls.
Alley Roof made 5-of-8 foul shots during the second half as part of her game-high 25-point effort. Brooklynn Messer also contributed to the win with eight points.
Prairie Valley was down 20-16 at intermission, but clawed back for a 23-22 edge at the end of three quarters.
Alley Roof had a steal-layup combination and Midway had two other turnovers during the game’s final two minutes to help Prairie Valley win.
Roof’s 3-point bank shot with 6:34 to go in the fourth gave the Lady Bulldogs a 28-26 lead, which was an advantage the team wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the way.

Published

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
