Bowie Council approves resolutions for grant applications

Published

on

In a brief 10-minute called Bowie City Council session Monday, councilors approved four resolutions required for grant applications to the State Homeland Security program.
Grant request applications were prepared by Kirk Higgins, emergency management coordinator and Police Chief Guy Green. The four applications seek a total of $99,750 in funding for a variety of equipment. All of these grants are 100 % and don’t require any local match. These grant awards will be announced in September.
Resolution one is for an all-hazards emergency management response/recovery trailer at an estimated $29,250. Higgins stated this could be a regional asset for a variety of needs including mobile communications, incident command post, hazardous material incident, firefighter rehab, mass casualty incident, point of distribution and many other needs. This trailer could contain things like a portable generator, lighting, heaters and fans, pop-up awnings or tarps, folding tables and chairs, cots and blankets, traffic cones, water coolers or ice chests among other items, which could quickly be placed into service for area incidents.
