The man shot and killed by local law enforcement officers after a brief pursuit mid-week has been identified as Alan Lance Alverson.

This 45-year-old fugitive also is accused of shooting and killing Pepper, a Wise County K-9, who was tracking and found the man hiding in the woods.

Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer Tony Fulton said late Thursday the deceased man was positively identified through fingerprints at the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office, where the body was sent for autopsy.

The Wise County Sheriff’s Office is planning a memorial service later this week for Pepper, whom the sheriff credits with saving five law officers who were involved in the shoot-out with Alverson.
