Nocona boys win bi-district, area game

The Nocona Indians won their first playoff game since 2017 in both their bi-district and area playoff games this week.
The Indians beat Stamford on Tuesday 57-48 before turning around to beat Poolville on Thursday 46-41.
Nocona came into the playoffs earning its first district title since 1988 and first matched up with a Stamford team that had to battle in the play-in just to get into the playoffs.
It was a classic clash of styles, with the Bulldogs wanting to get the ball to their big post players whereas Nocona wanted to use its press to force turnovers, be scrappy and look to push the ball and play fast.
It was slow going in the first quarter as the Indians led only 7-5, but Nocona exploded in the second quarter as it scored 26 points.
The only complaint was certain players were dealing with foul trouble, but that was the case for both sides as the whistles were blown frequently against both teams and each ended the half with more than 10 fouls.
