Bowie High School’s baseball team celebrated Senior Night Tuesday, honoring Cooper Cantwell, Coby Bentley, Dylan Slade and R.J. Oliver.
All four players were instrumental in Bowie’s 15-0 conquest over Montague County rival Nocona.
Cantwell struck out 13 batters in a complete-game performance. Bentley doubled and tripled and scored twice. Slade plated two runs. Oliver recorded a key putout in the outfield early in the contest.
“Cooper got on a roll, and he was dominant for us,” Bowie head baseball coach Ryan Rogers said. “He got on a streak of striking out 12 of 13 batters. I like that seniors contributed to all 15 outs made in the game. Coby had a putout and R.J. caught a fly ball.”
Bowie, ranked in the top-10 in Conference 3A in all major state polls, improved to 23-1-2, 13-0 in the district.
Nocona dropped to 8-12, 4-9 in 3A-9. The Jackrabbits finished the regular season on Friday at Boyd.
Bowie will open the playoffs next Friday with a best-of-3 series against Whitesboro in the bi-district round. Read more, and see the complete box score, in the weekend Bowie News.
