Bowie Council says no to developer’s request for special permit

Citizen opposition to the construction of a duplex rental property at 707 Gray Street pushed the Bowie City Council to deny a specific use permit request by a local developer.

The permit request made by Windol Robbins was denied by City Code Officer David Rainey based on what he said was citizen opposition in that neighborhood.

In the June 19 planning and zoning commission meeting, the appeal was granted, moving on to the city council for further action. It was citizen opposition that swayed the council to say no.

Four citizens opposed to the duplex construction addressed the council Tuesday night.

Montague County Grand Jury issues November indicted cases

The following indictments were filed with the 97th District Clerk following the November session of the Montague County Grand Jury.
There were a total of 13 indictments with one sealed awaiting the arrest of a suspect.
A grand jury indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

New transformer arrives at Bowie substation

The new transformer was placed on its pad when it arrived at the City of Bowie electrical substation last Friday. Installation of this 20 Mva transformer, which is larger than the two 1992 original 12.5 units, will begin this week and come on line early in the new year. (Courtesy photos)
