OUTDOORS: Horse whispering course will teach nuances

Published

on

Horse trainer and whisperer Larry Hannon will demonstrate how to use an ancient system to understand a horses’ personality at 2 p.m. on Sept. 6 at Copper Breaks State Park in Quanah.
It’s important to understand the personality of a horse to work with them and train them.
Hannon’s program will begin at park headquarters, and then he will lead participants in an unusual version of “Meet the Longhorns” as he applies techniques to the park’s longhorns and helps the visitors learn about understanding different personalities within the herd.
This is just part of an ongoing series of campsite programs.
The event is free, although a $2 admission fee will be charged.
Copper Breaks is located 13 miles south of Quanah and eight miles north of Crowell on Texas Highway 6.
For information, call the Copper Breaks State Park office at 940-839-4331.

TPWD asks for help keeping parks vibrant

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is in need of funding due to record drought and heat, devastating wildfires and a drop in visitation at state parks.
This is a critical situation.
Donate directly to the TPWD via vehicle registration, or visit a state park.
Admission fees are low and provide about half of the operating costs.

Bowie, Nocona compete in VB scrimmages

Published

Nocona’s volleyball team headed to Bowie for a three-team scrimmage with the host team and Ponder Aug. 7.

Each team played the other two for 30 minutes in the Lady Rabbit gym. Lady Indian Coach Sandy Langford said she thought things went well for a first scrimmage.

“Just like any young team that is trying to find itself in a first scrimmage, We looked really good at times and at others not so much,” Langford said. “We’re forming a new team after losing a lot of seniors.”

Langford said the squad would have one thing go wrong and it would explode into several things. That will need to stop for a successful year in Langford’s mind.
