RODEO: Hawkins turns in fastest ride

The Forestburg Rodeo, dubbed “The Biggest Little Rodeo in Texas,” took place on Friday and Saturday in conjunction with the 34th annual Forestburg Watermelon Festival.
The United Professional Rodeo Association and Texas Cowboys Rodeo Association served as the governing bodies, and more than $4,600 in prize money was given.
The Forestburg Riding Club put on performances both nights.
Big L Rodeo of Rubottom, Okla., provided the stock for all of the events.
Big L still has two rodeos remaining in Oklahoma before the regular season comes to a close.
There were additional events in junior barrels, calf scramble and double mugging; however, those events weren’t reported to The Bowie News.
Here are the final reported results from the two-day event.

1, Brandee Hawkins, 14.732 seconds; 2, Andrea Wolf, 15.000; 3, Tammy Rokus, 15.178; 4, Kylie Bowles, 15.316
Breakaway Roping
1, Kaite Hedemann, 3.25; 2, Tanner Gray, 3.75
Bull Riding
1, Christiano Figueredo, 83 score; 2, Tuff Morgan, 76; 3, Ty Scott, 74; 4, Dalton Doggett, 70
Saddle Bronc
1, Korey Weger, 70
Tie-Down Roping
1, Bailey Wilson, 13.32; 2, Bruce Gibbs, 15.91.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.

Botard new BHS girls BB coach

After some coaching time in East Texas, Bret Botard will be the new girl’s basketball coach at Bowie.

Botard said it’s a chance to work with Bowie Athletic Director Tyler Price once again. Price was Botard’s assistant when he coached at Nocona.

“I wanted to get back into the area,” Botard said. “It’s a good community.”

Botard graduated high school in 1995 from Del Valle High School, outside Austin, and went to Texas Tech. He started his coaching career in Lubbock followed by returning to his alma mater where he was an assistant for his high school coach.
