Workman Watch: Aug. 6 edition

Published

on

Former Bowie High School standout and current Boston Red Sox pitcher Brandon Workman will make his next start at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
So, who’s opposing Workman in the game?
None other than St. Louis ace Adam Wainwright.
Workman has struggled in recent starts in the major leagues, dropping all four of his past starts.
On the positive side, opposing batters have only produced a .223 batting average against Workman this season.
This will mark Workman’s second start since being recalled by the Red Sox last week when the team traded starting pitchers Jon Lester, John Lackey and Felix Doubront.
Overall, Workman is 1-4 with a 4.08 earned-run average this season. In 57-1/3 innings of work, he’s allowed 31 runs (26 earned) on 47 hits while striking out 49 and walking 15.
Wainwright has been chased from two of his past three starts, uncharacteristic. Adam has a record of 13-6 with a 2.26 earned-run average in 22 starts. He has recorded two shutouts and three complete games. Opponents are hitting .213.
Workman is part of a new Red Sox rotation with Clay Buchholz, Rubby De La Rosa, Allen Webster and recent acquisition Joe Kelly, formerly of the St. Louis Cardinals.
