Forestburg needed its high-octane offense to defeat Denton Calvary on the road this past Friday by a score of 80-75.
Overall, the Longhorns accumulated 629 yards, including 361 yards rushing. Forestburg had a 19-15 edge in first downs and a convincing 268-12 margin in passing yards.
The game ebbed and flowed throughout. Forestburg, at one point, had a 44-30 lead in the second quarter only to see Denton Calvary take a one-point lead at intermission.
In the second half, Denton Calvary was up as many as nine points, 61-52, while the Longhorns reclaimed the lead at 74-67.
Denton Calvary went ahead 75-74 with 1:52 left on Casey Skaggs’ two-yard touchdown pass to Keishun Cuchens, before Malaci Moore sealed the win for the Longhorns with a six-yard TD run with 11 seconds to go on a dive play.
Forestburg head coach Wayne Tuckwell remembered being involved in a similar game while coaching at Vernon Northside as Northside defeated Amarillo Bible Heritage 104-96 one season.
“It was a crazy game, that’s for sure,” Tuckwell said. Read more on how Forestburg and Saint Jo did last Friday by reading The Bowie News in print and online.

Nocona, Gold-Burg were idle

Bowie, Nocona compete in VB scrimmages

Published

Nocona’s volleyball team headed to Bowie for a three-team scrimmage with the host team and Ponder Aug. 7.

Each team played the other two for 30 minutes in the Lady Rabbit gym. Lady Indian Coach Sandy Langford said she thought things went well for a first scrimmage.

“Just like any young team that is trying to find itself in a first scrimmage, We looked really good at times and at others not so much,” Langford said. “We’re forming a new team after losing a lot of seniors.”

Langford said the squad would have one thing go wrong and it would explode into several things. That will need to stop for a successful year in Langford’s mind.
