The Nocona High School girls’ cross country squad punched its ticket to the regional meet.
The Lady Indians compiled 76 points, which was good enough for third spot, and several others qualified for the regional meet – Bowie’s Kamryn Cantwell and Nocona boys Brayden Skinner and Dylan Parker – based on efforts at the District 3A-9 meet on Monday at Kiwanis Park in Wichita Falls.
Holliday Independent School District served as the meet host.
“This means a lot,” Nocona head girls cross country coach Brad McGann said. “The girls have put in a lot of work. They are excited. This was one of their goals.”
The top-3 teams and 10 individuals qualified for the University Interscholastic League regional meet set for Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie. The park is located on the northern edge of Joe Pool Lake.
“I am looking forward to seeing what Kamryn can do on the regional stage,” Bowie head girls’ cross country coach Colby David-Pastusek said. “Kamryn did an outstanding job, and ran her personal best by more than one minute.”
Miriam Diaz was Nocona’s top performer, clocking at 12 minutes, 15.14 seconds over two miles. Cantwell placed sixth, clocking in at 12:35.80. Read more in the mid-week edition of The Bowie News.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys

Published

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
