COLLEGE SOFTBALL: NCTC raises nearly $20K for charity

Published

on

North Central Texas College raised more than $19,000 for a couple of campus-based charities through an alumni softball doubleheader this past Saturday, Nov. 15, in Gainesville.
Money will go towards four young women who lost their lives during a September bus accident, to offer support for families and raise money for a recently-established NCTC Angels in the Infield scholarship.
With cloudy and chilly conditions serving as the backdrop, the alumni games offered them a chance to raise money for scholarships and show support for the current crop of Lion softball players.
Former softball Olympians Jennie Finch, Lauren Lappin and Danielle Lawrie, along with current college stars Amanda Scarborough, Taylor Hoagland and Lauren Chamberlain served as coaches for the alumni teams.
Many former NCTC players came back to play in the two games. There was also a home run derby, NCTC public relations specialist Darin Allred reported. Read more in the weekend Bowie News, and with your e-subscription.

Bowie, Nocona compete in VB scrimmages

Published

on

Nocona’s volleyball team headed to Bowie for a three-team scrimmage with the host team and Ponder Aug. 7.

Each team played the other two for 30 minutes in the Lady Rabbit gym. Lady Indian Coach Sandy Langford said she thought things went well for a first scrimmage.

“Just like any young team that is trying to find itself in a first scrimmage, We looked really good at times and at others not so much,” Langford said. “We’re forming a new team after losing a lot of seniors.”

Langford said the squad would have one thing go wrong and it would explode into several things. That will need to stop for a successful year in Langford’s mind.
