The Nocona High School volleyball team had a tall order on Tuesday – taking on a Pottsboro squad with sophomore Destiny Daniel lurking in the middle.
Daniel, just a sophomore, stands nearly 6-foot-2 and is an imposing threat.
But, for Pottsboro on this night, during this Conference 3A bi-district playoff match at Gainesville High School, the Cardinals had even more weapons.
That’s why Pottsboro advanced to the area round of the playoffs on Thursday with a 25-20, 25-22, 25-17 victory over Nocona – the only school from Montague County to even make the playoffs.
“It’s been a great season and these girls have worked hard and battled all year,” Nocona head coach Tiffany Clay said. “I couldn’t be more pleased with the success these girls have had this year.”
Clay said she was pleased to see the performance level improve as the season wore on for the Lady Indians.
“Every girl in this program contributed, and made my first year as Nocona head coach truly great,” she said.
Pottsboro, in turn, lost to Grandview in the area round on Thursday at McKinney North High School. The Zebras defeated the Cardinals in five sets by scores of 25-16, 24-26, 22-25, 25-16, 15-8. Read more in the weekend edition of The Bowie News.

Published

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
