HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Forestburg draws Chillicothe

Throckmorton claimed the District 12-1A-II title with a thrashing over homestanding Forestburg at Longhorn Field.
Wide receiver Bryan McDowell and quarterback Matthew Wallace hooked up on Forestburg’s lone score, 15-yard touchdown pass.
Forestburg finishes the regular season at 6-3 overall, 2-1 in the district.
The Longhorns will face Chillicothe in the Conference 1A Division II bi-district playoffs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in Archer City.
Chillicothe won District 11-1A-II, but the Eagles are nowhere near as dominant as Throckmorton. That should give Forestburg a chance to win.
The Eagles (6-4 overall) allowed 310 points this season while scoring 389, meanwhile Forestburg outscored opponents 442-375.
Chillicothe is a senior-laden team with the likes of running back Denzel Graves and quarterback Creed Harris guiding the offense. Both of them amassed more than 1,000 yards in total offense last year.
Junior Connor Pautsky propels the Eagle defense at linebacker.
“In the playoffs, everybody is 0-0,” Forestburg head coach Wayne Tuckwell said. “We’re going to have to work hard to win the game.”
Tuckwell said practices this week would be designed to prepare the Longhorns for Chillicothe. The coach said for Forestburg to accomplish its goal of playing in the postseason has been satisfying, but the Longhorns should strive for even more. Bowie, Nocona compete in VB scrimmages

Published

Nocona’s volleyball team headed to Bowie for a three-team scrimmage with the host team and Ponder Aug. 7.

Each team played the other two for 30 minutes in the Lady Rabbit gym. Lady Indian Coach Sandy Langford said she thought things went well for a first scrimmage.

“Just like any young team that is trying to find itself in a first scrimmage, We looked really good at times and at others not so much,” Langford said. “We’re forming a new team after losing a lot of seniors.”

Langford said the squad would have one thing go wrong and it would explode into several things. That will need to stop for a successful year in Langford’s mind.

Waters said a punch list meeting with the construction manager was scheduled for earlier this week with final touchups expected shortly afterwards. Fans should be able to enjoy the facility for the volleyball team’s season opener Aug. 11.

Fans will enjoy the new gym from entering the facility which has glass walls, enabling fans to watch the game from the foyer. Once inside the gym itself, there is stadium, chair back seating on the home side allowing for a much more comfortable experience.
