Bowie played its home opener on Tuesday against Millsap.
And the Jackrabbits improved to 2-0 after a 51-45 win in a rather eventful game at BHS Gymnasium.
“We played some good second and third quarters,” said head coach Doug Boxell. “The fourth quarter got a little out of hand, but we still managed to keep control.”
The opening quarter was a tight one, as Bowie gained their first lead of the game within the final minute of the quarter with a 13-11 score.
“Both teams started off that quarter well,” Boxell said. “They both hit some good threes at the beginning.”
However the animosity between the two teams took center stage in the game, mainly in the fourth quarter. Both teams had some rough bouts of pushing and shoving which ultimately ended in the Millsap fans and team leaving in disgust.
However Boxell, who after a foul committed against Jeffery Howard in the fourth quarter stormed out to the court to confront the culprit, exercised calm with the team.
“Well sometimes you just have to stick up for one of your players like that,” Boxell said regarding that moment. Read more, and see the complete box score, in the weekend Bowie News.
