Kalyn Crow, Emma Meekins, Magye Fenoglio and Makenzie Franklin all played critical roles for the Nocona High School girls’ basketball team in its District 3A-9 overtime victory over City View.
On Nocona’s first possession of the extra frame, Crow canned a 3-pointer from the wing.
City View then took a 51-49 lead with 2 minutes, 14 seconds left in overtime.
The Lady Mustangs had a chance to forge ahead further, but Fenoglio stole a City View pass and fed Meekins for the tying basket.
City View took the lead again before Franklin made a scoop shot on the lane to give Nocona a 54-53 victory in Lady Indians’ head coach Bradley McGann’s first district foray.
“They are so athletic,” McGann said of City View. “Because they are so athletic, they will expose your mistakes.”
McGann said the Lady Indians had to play patient basketball.
“We have to find opportunities to score,” he said. “We were able to get some open looks and make our opportunities count.”
Nocona continues to mold its identity as a team of girls who fight to win. After a 1-5 start to the 2014-15 campaign, the Lady Indians stood at 6-6 heading into Friday night’s district tilt versus Jacksboro. Published

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
