MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Sox’ Workman placed on DL

Published

on

Former Bowie High School standout pitcher Brandon Workman is facing another setback in his hopeful return to the major leagues.
The Pawtucket PawSox placed Workman on the seven-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.
Workman was slated to work for the PawSox out of the bullpen this season, part of a permanent transition from a starter’s role to one as a reliever. According to Boston Red Sox team officials, the injury is not believed to be serious.
Workman will be seeking a second opinion on the injury, according to those team officials. Surgery is not expected.
Workman didn’t pitch in any of the PawSox games this weekend against Lehigh Valley, the Triple-A affiliate for the Philadelphia Phillies.
During the 2013 postseason, Workman made seven relief appearances without giving up an earned run as the Red Sox defeated the St. Louis Cardinals to win the World Series.
Workman came on strong late during spring training, and he’s considered valuable depth within the organization.

Bowie, Nocona compete in VB scrimmages

Published

Nocona’s volleyball team headed to Bowie for a three-team scrimmage with the host team and Ponder Aug. 7.

Each team played the other two for 30 minutes in the Lady Rabbit gym. Lady Indian Coach Sandy Langford said she thought things went well for a first scrimmage.

“Just like any young team that is trying to find itself in a first scrimmage, We looked really good at times and at others not so much,” Langford said. “We’re forming a new team after losing a lot of seniors.”

Langford said the squad would have one thing go wrong and it would explode into several things. That will need to stop for a successful year in Langford’s mind.
