Last year, Forestburg High School athlete Cheyenne Banks qualified for state in the Conference 1A discus.
Banks is returning to the state meet, but this time in the shot put.
“She didn’t get a mark in the discus this year, but she was able to get a mark in shot put and go in that,” Forestburg head girls’ track and field coach Steve Sandusky said. “It’s very exciting to be a part of what Cheyenne’s doing.”
Not too many Forestburg athletes have qualified for state more than once, and Banks joins the ranks of former Lady Horns such as middle-distance runner Christany Reynolds.
Meanwhile, after watching friends pole vault at the state meet in 2014, this time Saint Jo’s Sarah Patrick will be a competitor.
“She attended the state track meet last year as a spectator,” Saint Jo head girls’ track and field coach Chad Tallon said, “and she set the goal of qualifying this year. She has worked hard for this goal.”
This rounds out a stellar junior year for Patrick, who also qualified for the 1A regional golf and tennis tournaments and she won the region in the Current Events category at a University Interscholastic League academic competition. McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys

Published

on

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
