OUTDOORS: Applications for drawn hunts online

Published

on

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department urges hunters to apply online for the state’s drawn hunt system.
Hunters may select from more than 35 hunting categories on 95 areas throughout the state – including for whitetail, mule deer, bighorn sheep, pronghorn antelope, exotics, turkey, alligators and more.
The system is currently accepting applications for 2015-16 drawn hunts, including special permit hunts, E-postcard hunts and United States Forest Service antlerless deer permits.
For the second straight year, the process is handled electronically – applications, fee payments and permit issuance.
Hunt options may be viewed by category or by area using an interactive map at the website. A downloadable PDF of the drawn hunt catalog also is available online.
To participate, applicants will need Internet access, an email address, and a credit or debit card. The customer identification number from the applicant’s hunting or fishing license allows for access to the system.
The first application deadlines are Aug. 3 for alligator and exotic game hunt categories, and other hunt category deadlines are from Aug. 25 through Dec. 30. Read more in the weekend Bowie News.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys

Published

on

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
