CROSS COUNTRY: Nocona tunes up at Rider Invite

Nocona High School’s Luis Rico placed second – his highest-ever finish in a varsity race – and Lady Indians claimed the meet title at the Wichita Falls Rider Invitational on Thursday at Lucy Park.
Rico recorded a time of 18 minutes, 35.15 seconds for the Indians.
Rico and the rest of the Nocona boys and girls contingents were prepping for next Thursday’s District 3A-9 meet scheduled for Kiwanis Park in Wichita Falls.
Brayden Skinner and Dylan Parker also picked up medals for the boys. Skinner took third in a time of 18:38.90 and Parker grabbed 16th in 20:35.73.
Nocona didn’t have enough runners for a counted team score, but the girls did.
The Lady Indians runners totaled just 41 points and all of them claimed medals. Henrietta finished 19 points behind in second.
Maria Hernandez spearheaded Nocona’s effort, taking second in a time of 12:27.51 over the 3,200-meter course. Read more, and see complete scores, in the weekend Bowie News.
