City of Nocona only one to have contested race

The deadline to file for one of the open seats on the Nocona City Council, Nocona Hospital District Board, North Montague County Water Supply District Board and Nocona School Board ended last Friday.
Nocona City Council had three open seats available. Incumbents Tracy O’Neal, Bob Ferguson and Steve Tettleton all filed for re-election. Lynn Roberts also joined the race. The city will have the only contested race and will have to conduct an election.
The hospital board also has three seats with all three incumbents Tracy O’Neal, Bob Ferguson and Steve Tettleton filing for the election.
Two seats on the water board presently filled by Matt Hackley and Bill Crowe are up for election. Tony Owen filed for one of the seats and Crowe filed for re-election.
The Nocona School Board had two open seats. Pat Keck, secretary, filed for re-election for place three seat and Greg Fuller filed for re-election in place four.
Nocona is the only city in the county where elections have not been moved to November.
Bowie and Saint Jo, as well as their school districts have moved to the November races.

Repairs prompt boil order

A boil water order was implemented Monday afternoon for the area served at U.S. Highway 81 from Parker Drive to Old Bowie Lake as water line repairs were made. The order remains in place today. If you are affected by this order and need bottled water call 940-977-4941.

County finalizes the proposed tax rate, budget

While the budget was the primary topics for the Montague County Commissioners on Aug. 10, there were several other topics handled by the court.
Tax Assessor Collector Kathy Phillips presented the certification of value and rates for the 2026 taxes. The certified net values are $3,017,685,102 with rolling railroad stock at $15,954,716.
The county’s total taxable value is $3,033,639,818. Total appraised is $7,930,674,437, total assessed at $3,629,932,719 and total taxable value of new property at $93,632,505.
