Brianna Watkins has been added to the Bowie Junior High School coaching staff.
The Bowie Independent School District formally announced the decision at its board meeting earlier this week.
“It’s something I love doing,” Watkins said. “I still want to be involved in athletics, and this position opened up.”
Watkins moved to the area in Oct. 2014 when her husband, Thomas, was called to serve as a youth pastor for Lighthouse Assembly of God – a worship hall north of Bowie.
Since then, Watkins served as a substitute teacher, and in January 2015, she was added as an inclusion paraprofessional. She mainly works with special education students.
Now, Watkins is adding coaching duties as head BJH volleyball and tennis coach, and she’ll be an assistant with basketball.
Watkins said basketball is her true love, and she was a standout forward at Glenview Christian, a member of Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools. Read more in the July 23 Bowie News.
