Dirker named to NEDC Type A Board
The Nocona City Council appointed Theresa Dirker to the Nocona Economic Development Corporation Type A board during a Tuesday night meeting.
Dirker is the co-owner of Red River Pizzeria in Nocona with her husband, Tony. She takes the place of Dr. Chance Dingler on the board.
Councilors received an update on the Justin Building Community Center remodel. City Secretary Revell Hardison said the council should soon receive preliminary drawings from recently hired architects at Level 5 Design Group.
Nocona received a $500,000 Community Development Block grant to restore the downtown Justin Building at 100 Clay St. The NEDC leveraged $25,000 for the project, while the City of Nocona leveraged another $25,000. The complete funding for the project will total $550,000.
The original plan called for an open market concept, with doors all around that open and provide an area that is covered and finished. Hardison said the concept could be used for such things as farmers markets on the weekends.
However, the council had hoped to create a community center concept complete with air conditioning, but officials are taking a hard look at the amount of money available for the project.
