Two volunteers join CASA in Montague County

Published

on

The Court Appointed Special Advocates of Red River welcomed two new volunteers to its Montague County program on Thursday.

Lorra Lierly and Patricia Fleitman took the oath as a CASA volunteer this past week.

These volunteers are highly trained and then appointed by judges to represent and advocate for a child’s best interests in the child protection system. Volunteers are each assigned to help one child or a set of siblings at a time in order to focus on giving that child the attention they need.

“This will increase our CASA volunteers to eight who actually live in Montague County,” said Executive Director Laura Grimsinger. “This is not nearly enough because the county has an average of 100 children who are in care through child protective services every year. These children have lost everything- their families, homes, toys and their pets. It is all because they are being abused or neglected to such an extent they are in serious danger,” she explained.
