Bowie School Trustees Monday night voted to commit $400,000 to the purchase of new scoreboards and will join a campaign with local school boosters to raise additional funds for video board style scoreboards.
The board also filled one major department vacancy as a child nutrition director was hired. This is a new position created after Wayne Walker, support services director for the past 18 years, left the job in October.
While Walker supervised the district’s food nutrition, custodial and transportation programs, these areas are being revised with the new person overseeing food nutrition, and other department heads handling the others.
After a brief half hour executive session, the board selected Megan Davis, of Tuscon, AZ for the job. Superintendent Donna Hale said there were five applicants and four were interviewed.
Davis will begin her job on Jan. 5.
New scoreboards
As its multiple sports scoreboards reach their “end of life,” according to the repairmen, Athletic Director Tyler Price presented a trio of quotes to replace them and asked for board direction. The AD also has talked with the athletic boosters and other community leaders who want to help raise funds for the expensive electronic equipment.
