Wildfire fueled by high winds prompts evacuation action
Shortly after 2 p.m. Bowie area firefighters responded to a grass fire call in the area south of Farm-to-Market 174 and U.S. 287, where winds were whipping a large wildfire. An evacuation order went out a short time later for this area as law officers and firemen knocked on doors to warn people of the danger and evacuation. Firefighters were still working hard to get it under control around 3:30 p.m.
UPDATE – The evacuation order was lifted about an hour later as firefighters contained the fire. Montague County remains under a ban on outdoor burning, residents should exercise caution and stay weather alert. Cause of Tuesday’s fire was undetermined as of Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
