Gold-Burg, Saint Jo OAPs advance to area
Gold-Burg and Saint Jo High School’s one-act play troupes advance to area competition after their performances at bi-district on April 2.
The plays were in a three-way tie for first place with Bryson. These plays will now advance to area which is planned for April 10 at Grayson College, Cruce Stark Auditorium, Denison.
Gold-Burg performs “Anonymous,” at 9:30 a.m. followed by Saint Jo’s “The Perfect Ending,” at 10:30 a.m. Bryson takes the stage at 11:30 a.m. with a lunch break at 12:30 p.m. Performances resume at 1:30 p.m. with Avery, Savoy at 2:30 p.m. and Truvium Academy at 3:30 p.m. Critiques and awards follow.
At bi-district Gold-Burg actors Levi Hellinger and Izzi Rohde received All Star Cast, and Ash Bowling was honorable mention All Star Cast. Best overall sound tech went to Lexie Eaton.
Saint Jo’s Maxey Johnson received the Best Performer award and Layla Polk was All Star Cast with Brylee Stewart, honorable mention All Star Cast. Director Julie Kline said she has never had such a dedicated, hard-working and all-around fun group as this year’s troupe.
“They are all in! They always make it a point to be at practices, whether they are early in the morning or late at night, they show up. I have nothing but confidence in this amazing cast and crew, and we are excited about competition on Friday,” explained Kline.

Chisholm Trail Rodeo coming to Nocona
Nocona is preparing for the 74th annual Chisholm Trail Rodeo May 8 and 9 at the Chisholm Trail Arena.
The rodeo will take place at 7:30 p.m. Nightly with the Ryan Ready Band playing for the rodeo dance afterward on Saturday night. Tickets in advance are $12 and $15 at the gate.
All the traditional rodeo events are planned along with non-sanctioned events of junior barrels for 16 and under. There is $250 added each night, a jackpot nightly and contestants have a $50 entry fee. Entries open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 4-5.

TxDOT plans virtual meeting on rural road projects
TxDOT is hosting a virtual meeting to review projects included in the 2027-2030 Rural TIP.
The program is at 4 p.m. on May 6 and 11:59 p.m. on May 19, all online at https://bit.ly/4uhDwMG
The Rural TIP is a list of local projects to be funded during the next four years in the Wichita Falls District of the Texas Department of Transportation.
The counties included are Archer, Baylor, Clay, Cooke, Montague, Throckmorton, Wichita, Wilbarger, and Young. Transportation projects cannot receive federal funding unless they are included in the Rural TIP. This includes projects for private vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, public transport, and commercial vehicles.

Sewer line replacement moving forward
A section of Roach Street has been closed for the last few weeks as a new sewer line was installed replacing old clay tile line. It is phase two of multi-phase sewer line project across the city funded through a Texas Water Development Board loan of more than $9.7 million.
