Workman watch: July 16

Former Bowie High School pitcher Brandon Workman got back on the winning track on Sunday, albeit with the Triple-A Pawtucket PawSox.
The PawSox defeated the Toledo Mud Hens 13-8 as Workman earned the win for Pawtucket in a game played at Toledo, Ohio. Pawtucket is the Triple-A franchise for the Boston Red Sox located in Rhode Island.
Workman allowed two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the PawSox still had a commanding five-run lead at that juncture.
The Boston Red Sox demoted Workman last week, affording Brandon a chance to start a game while the Major League Baseball All-Star break took place.
Workman allowed four earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
This season for the PawSox, Workman has posted a 4-1 record with 37 strikeouts and a 5.36 earned-run average. He’s allowed 26 earned runs on 50 hits with 12 walks in 43-2/3 innings pitched.
Red Sox management has not indicated how long Workman will be back in Pawtucket, which opens a four-game homestand against Buffalo on Thursday.
With Boston, Workman has a 1-3 record, 4.13 earned-run average and 41 strikeouts in 52-1/3 innings of work. Opponents are batting .225 against Brandon in the majors this season.
