SPORTS BRIEFS: Bowie Midnight Madness set for Aug. 8

The Bowie High School football team will have its traditional midnight madness practice at midnight on Aug. 8 at Jackrabbit Stadium.
This will mark the fourth straight year the Jackrabbits have had the event under Head Football Coach/Athletic Director Dylan Stark.
Stark reported the Bowie Booster Club will operate a concession stand.
Football players are asked to report to the stadium by 10:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Friday, Aug. 8, is the first date the University Interscholastic League allows for practice in pads.

Awards Night will be Monday

The Bowie Sports Association will have its awards night at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 4 at the Haggar Baseball Complex on Monday.
All T-ball players will receive awards.
There will be awards given to the first- and second-place teams in several other classifications as well, including boys and girls in the machine pitch division, 10-under division, 12-under division and 14-under division.

Gold-Burg has slate change

Gold-Burg High School Head Volleyball Coach Lyndsey Shaw would like to report the Bears’ have made a schedule change for the 2014 season.
Gold-Burg’s first home match will now take place at 6 p.m. on Aug. 18 against the Wichita Falls Heat, a team of homeschooled students. The Bears will then play Graford at 5 p.m. on Aug. 26, which will be the Bears’ second home game.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
