Last year, the Forestburg High School girls’ basketball team provided Saltillo with a challenge, and the Lady Horns were down just nine points in the fourth quarter.
Saltillo didn’t give Forestburg a chance this year, rolling to a 22-2 lead at the end of one quarter – stretching it to 30-plus point lead en route to an 84-28 Conference 1A Area victory on Thursday at Howe High School.
“They didn’t have any holes,” Forestburg head coach Cori Hayes said. “They were fast. They could shoot the ball well on offense, and they knew where to move on defense.”
Hayes said he was proud of Forestburg for advancing this far. The Lady Horns made the area round for the second straight year, finishing with a record of 16-9, and second in District 1A-21.
This marked the final game for Cheyenne Banks.
Alexia Britain was Forestburg’s leading scorer with 10 points, which included 6-of-10 from the free-throw line. But, Britain had trouble contending with Saltillo’s athleticism. Read more, and see the box score, in the Feb. 20 Bowie News.
