For the Bowie High School boys’ basketball team, playing Gunter in Monday’s Conference 3A Region 2 bi-district game was a test.
Gunter played like an itch that was tough to scratch; but, eventually the Jackrabbits recorded a 55-43 victory at Denton Guyer High School.
Bowie (23-11) has advanced to the area round where it will face the winner of a bi-district game between Sunnyvale and Hillsboro.
“Gunter played hard, and Trey Watson was a handful,” Bowie head boys’ basketball coach Doug Boxell said.
Watson canned more than 100 3-pointers during the regular season, and he finished with six treys and 22 points in the loss to Bowie.
“Gunter used the dribble drive to pass out to their shooters,” Bowie’s Zeke Vaughan said. “We didn’t step out and put enough pressure on them. They were able to hit shots, and that kept them in the game.” Read more, and see the complete box score, in the Feb. 24 Bowie News.
