HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Brock eliminates Bowie girls

Bowie High School’s girls’ basketball team didn’t have much depth this year, and that elephant in the room was too much to deal with on Tuesday.
The Lady Rabbits saw their season come to an end as Bowie was riddled with foul trouble, and Brock eventually won 55-39 in this Conference 3A Region 2 quarterfinal game at Azle High School.
Bowie finished the season with a record of 27-9.
It turned into a punishing affair as the teams were called for a combined 40 fouls, and both were called for illegal substitutions once in the game.
“When we got in foul trouble, we had to do things differently on defense,” Bowie head coach Colby Davis-Pastusek said. “I thought we did an outstanding job on them in the first half.”
Davis-Pastusek said the illegal substitution calls against both schools cancelled each other out.
Bowie closed within four points of Brock after the Lady Eagles were called for theirs with 4:23 remaining in the fourth quarter. Courtney Brady made one of two technical free throws to slice Brock’s edge to 25-21.
However, the Lady Eagles responded as Rylee Lavender knocked down a 3-pointer from the wing, and she scored on a dribble drive during Brock’s ensuing possession. Read more, and see the complete box score, in the Feb. 27 Bowie News.
