ROUNDUP: Forestburg places 3rd at Bryson

The Forestburg High School volleyball team finished third at the Bryson Tournament on Saturday.
After falling to Petrolia in the first game 25-19, 25-13, the Lady Horns bounced back to beat Poolville 26-24, 25-21 and DeLeon 23-25, 25-18, 15-5.
“The Lady Horns did a great job at the Bryson Tournament,” Forestburg head coach Rosana Barbosa said. “After losing the first game; we were able to focus.”
Forestburg’s Brianna Raab was named to the all-tournament team.
Both Alexia Britain and Kendall Wallace had a pair of ace blocks.
Virginia Cody peppered 15 kills, with Hope Phipps recording nine kills and Wallace eight. Raab was the top defensive player for Forestburg. Phipps dished out nine assists. Six different girls had one ace serve apiece.
Bryson defeated Petrolia in three games for the title.
Other area teams also competed, and picked up their first victories of the season.
Prairie Valley defeated Woodson 25-20, 25-17 for the Bulldogs’ first conquest of 2014. Saint Jo, in turn, knocked off the Bulldogs 25-11, 25-11.
Newcastle defeated Saint Jo by scores of 25-12, 25-13 and the Panthers also lost to Gustine 25-13, 25-22.
In addition to the win versus Woodson, Prairie Valley lost to Graford 25-11, 25-10.
