Bowie High School head football coach Dylan Stark beefed up the Jackrabbits schedule in 2014, and Friday’s opponent was no different.
Pottsboro used a balanced offense and took advantage of two costly Bowie first-half fumbles to record a 52-19 victory on Friday at Jackrabbit Stadium.
“I thought we moved the ball,” Stark said. “We did some good things in the first half. We had two big turnovers, and you can’t do that against a good team. The halftime score would have been closer if we didn’t.”
Stark complimented Pottsboro on passing the ball just as well as threw it.
Bowie wraps up non-district play on Sept. 26 against Gunter. That will mark Homecoming Night for the Jackrabbits.
Bowie actually had the lead early as Jeffery Howard, promoted to the varsity roster in recent days, caught a 13-yard TD pass from Lawson Mickler.
Pottsboro claimed the lead late in the first quarter on a Thadeus Flinn four-yard run. Flinn finished the night with three TD runs.
Bowie closed the gap on Pottsboro in the second quarter as Brandon Hutto went up the middle on a 30-yard TD rumble. The Jackrabbits cut the Cardinals’ lead to 17-13 with less than six minutes left before intermission.
That’s when Pottsboro scored the game’s next five touchdowns, and effectively put the game out of reach. Jesse Vaughn contributed a 14-yard run for the Jackrabbits in the fourth quarter.
