Chisholm Trail symposium coming to Saint Jo May 6
Saint Jo invites everyone to attend “The Real Chisholm Trail Symposium” on May 6.
Presented by the Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Saint Jo Historical Society and the Museum of the Stonewall Saloon, the event intends to “set the record straight on the trail.”
The symposium, which opens at 9 a.m. with a meet and greet at the International Ordinance Museum, 201 S. Main, Saint Jo. The program begins at 9:30 a.m.
It will involve a presentation and panel discussion in which panelists will present historical evidence detailing the real facts around the pre- and post-Civil War cattle-driving industry. Panelists will discuss historical discrepancies and why they continue to be taught by many historians.
Questions and answer periods will follow the presentations that cover the topics of Pre-Civil War cattle industry, Abilene- the real cowtown, American Indian perspective, Oklahoma terri
The day will wrap up at 4:30 p.m. with a bus tour traveling the Red River cattle trail routes in Montague County.

Bowie Community Center presented a concert featuring the music country greats Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash this past Friday night.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week
Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.
