‘It gets in your blood’ – County Judge reflects on career in two roles

Montague County Judge Tommie Sappington will bring down the gavel one last time in the commissioner’s court Monday, as he retires after nearly 25 years of service.
This veteran county worker plans on submitting his resignation to the court Monday, afterwhich, the agenda lists court appointment of a person to fill out the term which ends Dec. 31.
If tradition holds regarding early resignations, incoming County Judge Rick Lewis who is running unopposed on the November general ballot, will be appointed since he would be taking office on Jan. 1, 2015.
A reception to honor Sappington’s service to the county is planned from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday in the courthouse annex.
