H.S. GIRLS BASKETBALL: Muenster tops Nocona

Playing inside Muenster High School’s gymnasium can be an intimidating experience – especially for the opposition.
The wooden bleachers and red paint make it appear as if one’s playing basketball in one of those old-fashioned barn-like gymnasiums of the past.
The atmosphere is loud and the fans are situated close to the court.
Nocona had trouble handling all of that on Tuesday, committing 31 turnovers en route to a 55-32 loss to Muenster.
The Lady Indians dropped to 1-2 heading into next Tuesday’s tilt against Alvord at home. Tip-off is set for 6:15 p.m.
First-year Nocona head coach Bradley McGann said the Muenster’s pressure was tough to handle.
“Trying to get the ball over half court, we had trouble with that,” McGann said. “I knew they were going to put a press on us. It was tough for us to get up the floor, get set and run stuff.”
Muenster’s suffocating defense produced a 20-3 lead at the end of one quarter. By intermission, the Lady Hornets had put up 35 points while the Lady Indians struggled just to get to 10. Read more, and see the complete box score in the weekend Bowie News.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys
New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.
“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”
McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.
McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.

Botard new BHS girls BB coach
After some coaching time in East Texas, Bret Botard will be the new girl’s basketball coach at Bowie.
Botard said it’s a chance to work with Bowie Athletic Director Tyler Price once again. Price was Botard’s assistant when he coached at Nocona.
“I wanted to get back into the area,” Botard said. “It’s a good community.”
Botard graduated high school in 1995 from Del Valle High School, outside Austin, and went to Texas Tech. He started his coaching career in Lubbock followed by returning to his alma mater where he was an assistant for his high school coach.
