HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL: Feverish Brady leads Rabbits
The Bowie High School girls’ basketball team wrapped up Burleson Tournament action on Saturday with a slim 58-57 victory over Keller Fossil Ridge.
The Lady Rabbits went 4-1 overall at the tournament, but earned fifth place in this oddly-formatted event.
Still, Bowie head girls’ basketball coach Colby Davis-Pastusek said she was pleased with her team’s effort – especially coming out on top by one point in a pair of games.
“In both situations, we were up one point, and we had to get a defensive stop,” Davis-Pastusek said.
Courtney Brady was named to the all-tournament team and she tallied 25 points in the victory over Fossil Ridge.
Brady played great despite having a fever, Davis-Pastusek reported.
“She stepped up and had a big weekend for us,” Davis-Pastusek said. “She carried the bulk of our offense, and shot the ball well. She did well playing through illness.”
The Lady Rabbits prevailed over Keller Fossil Ridge by outscoring them 20-14 in the final quarter.
Bowie stands at 9-4, and the team is off until Friday’s home game against Decatur. Read more, and see the complete box score, in the mid-week Bowie News.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys
New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.
“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”
McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.
McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.

Botard new BHS girls BB coach
After some coaching time in East Texas, Bret Botard will be the new girl’s basketball coach at Bowie.
Botard said it’s a chance to work with Bowie Athletic Director Tyler Price once again. Price was Botard’s assistant when he coached at Nocona.
“I wanted to get back into the area,” Botard said. “It’s a good community.”
Botard graduated high school in 1995 from Del Valle High School, outside Austin, and went to Texas Tech. He started his coaching career in Lubbock followed by returning to his alma mater where he was an assistant for his high school coach.
