Forestburg basketball had a handful of schools over this past weekend for a tournament.
With the boys winning their first game Friday and the girls winning their games Thursday and Friday, both Forestburg squads played in the championship bracket.
However, both would fall to Muenster Sacred Heart.
The Lady Horns opened play against the Chico junior varsity team. Forestburg cruised to a 59-10 win.
Wichita Christian was next in line for the host team late Friday afternoon. The Lady Horns came out firing on all cylinders, getting a big 61-15 win.
“We played well,” said head coach Rosana Barbosa. “We were able to run the offense and try some new things. The defense was strong, and we had a good shooting night.”
Forestburg played a tremendous first half, holding their opponent to two points in both quarters while scoring 28 points before the half.
Though the team let their foot off the gas a little in the second half, Barbosa said the defense still had a tremendous effort in the game.
Alexia Britain paced the team with 16 points, also adding 10 rebounds, one steal and a block. Kaylee Choate recorded 12 points, five rebounds, six steals and an assist. Samantha Reynolds tallied nine points with one rebound, two assists and two steals.
The win paved the way for a championship game matchup against the Lady Tigers of Sacred Heart. Read more, and see the complete box score, in the mid-week Bowie News.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys
New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.
“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”
McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.
McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.

Botard new BHS girls BB coach
After some coaching time in East Texas, Bret Botard will be the new girl’s basketball coach at Bowie.
Botard said it’s a chance to work with Bowie Athletic Director Tyler Price once again. Price was Botard’s assistant when he coached at Nocona.
“I wanted to get back into the area,” Botard said. “It’s a good community.”
Botard graduated high school in 1995 from Del Valle High School, outside Austin, and went to Texas Tech. He started his coaching career in Lubbock followed by returning to his alma mater where he was an assistant for his high school coach.
