City accepts 2018-19 audit; receives BEDC update

The City of Bowie accepted an unqualified audit for its fiscal year 2018-19 during this week’s meeting, along with hearing a report on economic development activities during the past six months.
Council members met in chambers, while those presenting took part in the video teleconference. Valerie Halverson of Mathis, West, Huffines of Wichita Falls, presented the audit reporting touching on the highlights and answering questions.
The assets of the city exceeded its liabilities at the close of the fiscal year by $29,603,103 (net position). Of this amount, $8,006,655 (unrestricted net position) may be used to meet the city’s obligations.
The city’s total revenues were $17,631,005. The large portion of revenue comes from charges for services at 78 percent. Sales, property and franchise taxes make up six, nine and four percent of total revenues. Grants and contributions and other minor categories make up the remaining three percent.

The Saint Jo City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on May 13 in regular session.
Items on the agenda include:
Appointment and approval of a fire marshal for the city.
Discuss support for Councilman Jack Dunn’s proposition to petition for additional sales tax revenue from the state for infrastructure purposes.
Consider dates for the 2026-27 budget workshop and ordinance workshop.
Approve minutes and monthly financials.

The Bowie City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on May 12 in the council chambers.
The agenda opens with a proclamation for Emergency Medical Services Week.
In the city manager’s report, Bert Cunningham will discuss the Rock and Pillar Street project and the Texas Water Development Board grant application.
In new business, Brittany Barnes will be considered as an appointment to the Bowie Community Development Board.
A resolution requesting financial assistance from the TWDB authorizing the filing of an application for assistance will be reviewed.
The master parks plan also will be presented by staff from Public Management.
The consent agenda and public comments round out the meeting.
