STORM CENTER: College football needed playoff

When Ohio State University safety Tyvis Powell intercepted Alabama’s Blake Sims on the final play of the Sugar Bowl Thursday evening, all the Southeastern Conference haters were in full effect.
And it made for entertainment on my Facebook page and Twitter feeds.
We live in a modern society where people aspire to have the first comment after a game is played – and social media is that outlet.
The record show that all four schools admitted to the SEC since 1991 – Arkansas, South Carolina, Missouri and Texas A&M – won their bowl games this year.
I looked on with pride Monday as Arkansas defeated Texas 31-7 in the Advocare V100 Texas Bowl. Maybe we should rename it the Arkansas Bowl now.
I’m kidding.
Actually, I’m in favor of restoring the bowl game in Houston to its rightful name – the Bluebonnet Bowl.
South Carolina topped Miami in the Duck Commander Independence Bowl at Shreveport, La., by a score of 24-21.
Much to the delight of many local residents, Texas A&M had enough firepower to defeat West Virginia 45-37.
And Missouri took care of business with a 33-17 victory over Minnesota at the incredibly tasty food game known as the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl.
The rest of the SEC certainly didn’t live up to the hype, and I am well aware of that. Read the rest of this column in the Bowie News in print and/or with your electronic subscription.
