The Forestburg High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams had a tough task ahead of them Tuesday, playing Slidell in what was expected to be a pair of competitive District 1A-21 games.

Forestburg and Slidell provided plenty of drama on the boys’ side, and the Longhorns outscored the Greyhounds 15-13 in overtime for a 66-64 victory.

The opening girls’ game was thrilling through the first three quarters, but Forestburg outscored Slidell 18-4 in the fourth for a 59-45 win.

“That was the best game we played all season,” said Lady Horns coach Rosana Barbosa. “The girls were determined and focused like never before. I am very proud of them.”

Though Forestburg jumped out to a 15-10 lead after one, Slidell answered by taking a 32-29 lead at intermission.

The stage was set for an exciting fourth quarter with both teams tied at 41-all. Alexia Britain came up big in the fourth, scoring necessary points, drawing fouls and grabbing rebounds to lead the Lady Horns to the win.

Britain played a huge game for the Lady Horns overall, scoring 28 points with 12 rebounds and a steal.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys

Published

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
