Hymns for the Hungry returns on Sept. 18

Published

on

Hymns for the Hungry is back after a two-year stop for the pandemic.
Led by the First United Methodist Church of Bowie this event allows surrounding churches and organizations to share their gift of music to benefit an organization that serves the less fortunate in our community – God’s Table. The year 2022 would have been the 10-year anniversary of hymns if not for the pandemic.
This year it will be from 6-8 p.m. on Sept. 18 at the Bowie Community Center, 413 Pelham.
Organizer Jarae Scruggs said due to the current economy, many more people are in need. Each church or organization that would like to participate needs to plan for two songs, share in donating the food and drinks that will be served and provide a couple of cakes for a live auction.
“We are also asking for churches to provide gift card(s) to food establishments and grocery or gas stores. Drawings for these gift cards will take place intermittently throughout the event,” she explained.
“Meal deals” of a hot dog, chips and drink will be served for $5, and dessert will cost $1. Admission fee is $1 per person.
All proceeds will go directly to God’s Table, an outreach provided by the First Free Will Baptist Church of Bowie. God’s Table is open six nights a week and is now feeding approximately 75-100 people each night.
Organizers will be will be accepting only the first 10 sign-ups, so don’t delay. Deadline to sign up is Sept. 7. For more information or to sign your church up, call or text Jarae Scruggs @ 940-841-1212, or call the FUMC office directly at 940-872-338.
