Area schools run at district
This week all of the area schools competed in the district cross country meets, with good results that will see several athletes and teams advancing to regional meets.
The team highlights included both Nocona teams repeating as district champions racing at Seymour on Wednesday while the Saint Jo girl’s team earned the district title racing at Midway on the same day as well.
The Bowie boy’s team finished second at Holliday on Monday, the Saint Jo boy’s finishing second, the Bellevue girls and the Prairie Valley boy’s teams finishing third. All of the teams that finished in the top three qualified for the regional meet.
Individually, one of the highlights included Isaac Renteria from Gold-Burg coming away as the district champion in the 1A boy’s race, running a time of 17:15. Joshua Stout from Prairie Valley was fifth, Jayden Curry and Barrett Johnson from Saint Jo finishing sixth and 10th to earn individual medals.
The 1A girl’s race saw Saint Jo have four girls finish in the top 10, with Abigail Carter winning the race overall with a time of 13:25.
Linzie Priddy from Prairie Valley followed in second place, Brylie Hager from Bellevue finishing third and Ollie Gaston from Gold-Burg finishing fifth to earn medals and qualify for regionals.
Both of Nocona’s top runners finished second in their races. Bayler Smith finished with a time of 13:36 and Claudio Segura running 17:39. Both of them were joined in the top 10 by the top four other runners on their teams to help them dominate as a team.
Alex Castro led Bowie with a fifth place finish and a time of 18:11 to earn a medal. He was joined in the top 10 by teammate Liam Pearson who finished not far behind in seventh place to earn individual medals.
The regional meets are a little more than a week away for those who qualified, with runners hoping to qualify for the state meet.
The Bowie boy’s will run in the 3A region I race at Mae Simmons Park at Texas Tech at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 23.
Both of the Nocona teams and all of the 1A teams are scheduled to run at Lynn Creek Park at Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie.
The 1A races are scheduled for 10 a.m. for girls and 10:30 a.m. for boys on Oct. 23. For Nocona, the race times are the same for the next day on Oct. 24.
Individual varsity results for all area schools are in the weekend edition of the Bowie News.

Imotichey takes over as Forestburg VB coach
A positive culture can be tough to install but will reap dividends if done correctly.
Trinadee Imotichey is trying to do just that with her Forestburg Lady Longhorns.
Imotichey, an assistant coach on the 2025 Forestburg volleyball team, was moved into the head coaching position. Last year’s coach, Cori Hayes, took over as football head coach.
Imotichey, in her 2nd year in Forestburg, said she learned a lot from Hayes and is ready to take over.

Lady Rabbit SB beats Bridgeport
Bowie’s summer softball league team overcame a 6-1 deficit with a six-run third inning for a 7-6 win over Bridgeport in its season opener July 6.
The league consists of teams from Bowie, Nocona, Lindsay, Bridgeport, and Alvord and will last three weeks. Bowie will host games each week.
Bowie pitcher Hazel Trahern gave up two singles and a groundout to put the Sissies on the board in the first. It would be the only hits she gave up in the game. Two groundouts and a strikeout got the Lady Rabbits out of the jam.
Bowie got the run back in the bottom of the first with Andee Jo Miller opening the frame with a walk and a stolen base. She then scored on Kynlee Baker’s groundout to tie the game at one.

Keck heads to National Junior Olympics
Rest. Run. Repeat.
Sage Keck, an 8th grader at Montague, lives by this mantra. No ifs, ands and buts about it.
She’s been running since fourth grade PE classes where she would run a mile every week. After discovering she could outrun the other students, she began to enjoy it and continued doing it.
Her success continued, as she finished 2nd overall against more than 200 runners at the Old Saint Jo 5K July 4. In last weekend’s Texas Junior Olympics, she reached the pinnacle of her career so far by qualifying for the United States of America Track and Field (USATF) National Junior Olympics in Norwalk, Calif. in three events.
